PREPARATION FOR THE FAIS REGULATORY EXAMS (REs)

The only way to pass the regulatory examinations is to be thoroughly prepared. It could take you anything between 2 to 3 months to prepare adequately for the Level I Regulatory Examinations.

Without being well-prepared, you are unlikely to be able to answer the multiple-choice questions in the papers.
It is recommended that you follow the steps listed below, in order.

1.FSB Preparation Guidelines
Read the FSB's Preparation Guidelines for the RE1 and 5 examinations. This will give you a technique for the approach to studying for the exams.

2. FSB Circular
Read the FSB's recent circular addressing the background development and basis for the exams.

3. Relevant legislation
Go through the FAIS, FICA Acts, Board Notices and the Code of Conduct to get a full view of the knowledge required to be successful in the exams. You are also urged to read and understand the relevant FSB Board Notices. Please go to the FSB website to access the board notices at www.fsb.co.za.

4. INSETA Training Material
Now go through the INSETA learning material developed to assist with your preparation for the examinations. It contains the legislative content for the FSB’s specified qualifying criteria, and is designed to be user-friendly, with explanations of what the underlying intention of the legislation is.

Methods of Study
Different learners have different methods of studying for exams. You should choose the one most appropriate to yourself.
Some of the methods are:

- Self - study
- Group-work with your colleagues
- Use of a Training Provider
- An understanding of how to complete multiple- choice exams

Deadlines
The deadline for the Level 1 RE exams is 31st December 2011. This means that the schedule is tight, and you should be applying yourself to learning immediately, as there is a considerable amount of work to be done.
INSETA wishes you every success in your efforts.
