Clearing up confusion

Please remember that to obtain credits against assessor unit standards and be endorsed by the ETDP SETA against these standards does not mean that you are registered as an assessor. To obtain registration, consult your ETQA now! They require, in addition to your assessor achievement, evidence that you are a subject matter expert and require registration against specific unit standards and qualifications. You can register with as many ETQAs as necessary as an assessor against those specific unit standards and qualifications provided you meet the criteria for registration with each ETQA.
You can find the revised unit standards on the SAQA website under the following ID numbers:
115753 – Conduct outcomes-based assessment
115755 – Design and develop outcomes-based assessments
115759 – Conduct moderation of outcomes-based assessments
The “old assessor standard” registered as NLRD ID 7978 with SAQA still remain in force and will be phased out in the next two years. The “new assessor standard” registered as NLRD ID 115753 is a revised version and there are changes, which all providers of assessor training must take into consideration. SAQA has been approached regarding the change in ID numbers and we have been told that there will be a link made between the two ID numbers on the website so that it does not appear to be a new standard but a revised version of an existing standard.
The changes made to the standard have largely been to address quality assurance issues and to make the kind of evidence that is required more explicit by the standard and not subject to various interpretations as it has been. It has essentially been revised to emphasise embedded outcomes and to ensure that there is sufficient evidence that the candidate has in fact applied the standard in the real world. Changes made to the standard were also introduced to ensure appropriate implementation in the workplace. It is impossible to provide evidence of workplace implementation at the end of a training session
Please remember that once you are awarded credits on the NQF, these can never be retracted. So rest assured that if you have been endorsed against these unit standards, you are eligible for registration as an assessor. But – remember to update your course if you are a training provider of the assessor standard!
